Undergraduate:

Full time: Full-time status for undergraduate students is from 12 to 18 credit hours per semester.
Part-time: Undergraduate students are not eligible to study part-time.

Graduate:
Full-time status for graduate students is determined by the number of credits to complete the degree/certificate, as follows:

Master of Laws (LL.M.): 6-9 credits
Master of Arts in Human Rights and Social Justice (MAHRSJ): 9-12 credits (3 during summer term)
Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (MATEFL): 9-12 credits
Master of Science in Economics (MSE): 12-18 credits (3-6 in the summer semesters)
Master of Business Administration (MBA): 9-12credits
Master of Science in Management and Analytics (MSMA): 9-15 credits (3 during summer term)
Master of Engineering in Industrial Engineering & Systems Management (MEIESM): 9-15 credits
Master of Science in Computer and Information Science (MSCIS): 9-15 credits
Master of Public Health (MPH): 11-18 credits
Master of Arts in International Relations and Diplomacy (MAIRD): 12 credits (6 during summer term)
Master of Public Affairs (MPA): 12 credits (6 during summer term)

Master of Multiplatform Journalism (MAMJ): 15-16 credits, (6 during summer term); only full-time status allowed

Graduate Certificates: Determined by the total credits required as noted in the education contract.

Part-time:
In order to study part-time, graduate students must file a Petition for Part-Time Study in the Office of the Registrar and it must be approved by the chair of the academic program or Dean in the case of MPH.

Overload: A course load beyond the above-cited range, requires an extra-large amount of effort (beyond what most students are typically able to accomplish). However, students may elect an “Overload,” taking a maximum of 21 units in a semester, with the approval of their Program Chair or Dean in the case of MPH.

*A non-regular load (including part time or overload) may have implications on the student’s tuition and tuition privileges. Students should check with the Office of the Registrar and the Office of Financial Aid.
