Applicants may apply to receive a waiver to the English Language Proficiency requirement if, within the five years preceding their application to AUA they have completed at least two consecutive years of full-time study at a recognized high school, college, or university where the primary language of instruction is English.

The qualifying period of study must have been completed primarily through in-person instruction. Study completed entirely or primarily through online, distance-learning, or other remote modalities will not normally qualify for a waiver.

Applicants applying for a graduate or graduate certificate program may also apply for a waiver if they have completed one year full-time study of the previous five years at a recognized university where the primary language of instruction is English and can demonstrate proficiency in English through other accomplishments. Such cases will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Applicants whose qualifying English-medium study was completed more than five years prior to the date of application may also be considered for a waiver on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration the recency and duration of their English-medium education, subsequent academic or professional experience in English, and other evidence of English language proficiency.

Applicants must submit an English Language Proficiency Test Waiver application form to be considered for a waiver. Additional information and/or an interview may be required to determine eligibility for a waiver.

To avoid delays in admission decisions, applicants should submit their waiver request at least four weeks before submitting their application for admission. Applicants whose waiver requests are not approved must take one of the standardized English Entrance Exams that are accepted by the AUA Admissions office and assure that official test results are reported to AUA in a timely manner.
