Applicants may apply to receive a waiver to the English Language Proficiency requirement if they have studied full-time at least two consecutive of the previous five years at a recognized high school, college, or university where the primary language of instruction is English.
Applicants applying for a graduate or graduate certificate program may also apply for a waiver if they have completed one year full-time study of the previous five years at a recognized university where the primary language of instruction is English and can demonstrate proficiency in English through other accomplishments. Such cases will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
Applicants must submit an English Language Proficiency Test Waiver application form to be considered for a waiver. Waiver requests are handled on a case-by-case basis. Additional information and/or an interview may be required.
To avoid delays in admission decisions, applicants should submit their waiver request at least four weeks before submitting their application for admission. Applicants not receiving a waiver must arrange to take the TOEFL iBT or IELTS Academic exams and assure that official test results are reported to AUA in a timely manner.
