Note: The AUA Math Test was discontinued effective July 2018.  However, AUA will accept all valid AUA Math test scores as proof of math proficiency for the Fall 2019 and Fall 2020 admission cycles.

1.1 Undergraduate Admissions

In collaboration with the academic programs, the Office of Admissions aims to achieve the University’s enrollment goals by providing high-quality services that attract, admit, and enroll a diverse student body prepared to succeed academically, become active members of the campus community, and strive to realize the mission and goals of the American University of Armenia.

AUA is committed to providing high-quality undergraduate education to well-qualified applicants on a non-discriminatory basis, regardless of their ability to pay. However, space in the entering class for each major is limited; thus, students are admitted on a competitive basis. The admissions process aims to select students who have the skills and ability to succeed at AUA and to assure that AUA is well-suited to their educational and career goals. Having a specific grade point average or entrance exam score result is not a guarantee of admission.

AUA practices holistic admissions. Each application is initially screened for technical eligibility. To be eligible for admission to AUA, applicants must provide proof of high school graduation or the equivalent by no later than the summer prior to the start of their undergraduate studies and submit a complete application with all required supplements. The AUA Undergraduate Admissions Committee (UAC) then conducts a thorough review of each eligible application. Some applicants may be called for an interview as part of the admissions process. As admissions to AUA is competitive, the UAC considers both academic and personal information including but not limited to educational background, official entrance exam scores, extracurricular and volunteer experience, essays, and the interview, when applicable.

Admissions decisions are final and cannot be appealed.

1.2 Undergraduate Admissions Requirements

To be considered for admission to AUA's undergraduate programs, an applicant must meet the following admissions requirements:

• Satisfy the Math Proficiency Requirement 
• Submit a complete AUA Application for Admission to Undergraduate Study and all required supplements as outlined in the application instructions
• Be a student in his/her final year of studies at a high-school or equivalent, or have already earned a high school or equivalency degree by the time of application submission (More information is available http://admissions.aua.am/application-requirements/)
• Complete high school, or equivalent, by no later than the summer prior to the start of their undergraduate studies and submit proof of graduation
• Satisfy the English Language Proficiency Requirement
• Pay the non-refundable application fee

1.3  Admissions Requirements – English Language Proficiency

The language of instruction at AUA is English. As such, all applicants must demonstrate sufficient proficiency in the language to successfully participate in courses at AUA.

Applicants whose primary language is not English are required to demonstrate English language proficiency for admission consideration. Some applicants may be eligible to receive a waiver of the English Language Proficiency requirement if they meet the criteria in the English Language Proficiency Test Waiver Policy. Others must submit official exam results confirming English Language Proficiency either from the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet Based Test (TOEFL iBT) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic).

Applicants should note that the UAC will consider both the officially reported total scores as well as all sub-scores at the time of application. Applicants who score above the English language proficiency target scores are not guaranteed admission while those that score less than the target may be considered for conditional admission (See Section 5 below).

Applicants with a 67 or lower on the TOEFL iBT or 5.5 or lower on the IELTS Academic will be automatically denied.

For AUA application purposes, the TOEFL iBT/IELTS Academic scores are only valid for two years. Applicants must ensure that test scores are sent electronically to AUA by selecting institution code 4151 for the TOEFL iBT and by selecting “the American University of Armenia – Office of Admissions” for the IELTS Academic.

Applications are not considered complete until the Office of Admissions is in receipt of the English language proficiency official score reports. Native or near- native English speakers are eligible to receive a waiver for the English Language Proficiency exam should they meet the eligibility requirements as outlined in the English Language Proficiency Test Waiver Policy..

1.5 Math Proficiency

Applicants are required to demonstrate proficiency in mathematics at the time of application. Available math proficiency exams include the SAT or the ACT. Applicants must ensure official test scores are sent directly to AUA by indicating AUA’s institution code:

• SAT – 7257
• ACT – 6982

Note: SAT scores for exams taken before 2016 will be concorded based on College Board's concordance tables.

Applications are not considered complete until the Office of Admissions is in receipt of math proficiency official score reports.

Applicants who score above the math proficiency target scores are not guaranteed admission while those that score less than the target may be considered for conditional admission (See Section 5 below).

2.1  Application for Admission

All applicants to AUA’s undergraduate programs are required to submit the following documentation by the published deadline dates to be considered for admission:

• Non-refundable application fee
• A recent photo of the applicant that meets the photo requirements listed in the online application instructions
• Proof of Math Proficiency (refer to policy Section 1.5)
• A complete online Application for Admission to Undergraduate Study Proof of English Language Proficiency (refer to Section 1.3)
• A scan of the government-issued photo identification document (e.g. passport, national identification card)
• Scan of official transcript(s) and proof of high school graduation or equivalent - more information regarding accepted equivalency degrees is available under Proof of High School Graduation at http://admissions.aua.am/application-requirements/
• While not mandatory, applicants are encouraged to submit proof of any and all extracurricular and volunteer activities as indicated in their Application for Admission to Undergraduate Study.

2.2  Application Deadlines

Applicants are encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible and well before the published deadline dates.

2.3  Application Fees

Applicants and reapplicants submitting Applications for Admission to Undergraduate Study must pay the application fee. 3. Application Status and Admissions Decisions

In order for the UAC to make a decision on an application, the Office of Admissions must receive complete applications with all required supplements. Applicants who submit complete application packages by AUA’s admission deadline dates will receive notification of their admission status by email, up to twelve weeks after each admission deadline date. Applicants who submit any new information after the published deadline date to be considered by the UAC, including test retakes, will be moved to the next deadline date. Any new information submitted after the published deadline will not be considered.

Admissions decisions are final and cannot be appealed.

Undergraduate Application Statuses are categorized as follows:

Admission: Applicant is offered admission to the program indicated in the Admission Status Letter.

Conditional Admission: An applicant who does not meet the target scores for admission, but otherwise demonstrates the potential to successfully pursue an undergraduate degree at AUA, may be offered conditional admission. Students admitted conditionally will be required to meet all conditions as stipulated in their Admission Status Letter. Failure to meet stipulated conditions will result in the University rescinding the offer of conditional admission or other actions including but not limited to termination from the University.

Denial: Applicant is denied admission to AUA.

Deferred: An applicant is deferred and moved to the following admissions deadline for further consideration. Prior to this deadline, the applicant may submit new information that may augment his/her Application for Admission to Undergraduate Study. Applicants who are deferred will receive an updated Admission Status Letter during the notification period of the next deadline.

Waitlist: An applicant is offered a spot on the waitlist for the program indicated in the Application Status Letter. Each year, a number of applicants may be placed on a waitlist for admission due to limited space. Applicants on the waiting list will be notified if and when places become available in the entering class but no later than the first day of classes. A final Application Status Update will be sent to all waitlisted applicants.

4. Reapplication Process

Applicants whose applications were previously denied, technically ineligible, or incomplete must submit new applications for admission. Accepted applicants who did not enroll at AUA or did not defer their offer of admission must also reapply. Reapplications will be reviewed by the UAC, and must be submitted by the published admission deadline dates.

If reapplicants apply for admission within the same academic year, they need not resubmit transcript(s), diploma(s), certificate(s), and other attachments already submitted with their initial Application for Admission to Undergraduate Study. Reapplicants should, however, submit any documents that provide new information or evidence that supports their ability to succeed in studies at AUA.

5. Verification of Credentials

AUA’s Office of Admissions reserves the right to verify the information listed in the application and any additional documents submitted during the admissions process.  Intentionally giving false or misleading information in the application will result in the rejection of the application.

6. Responding to Offers

Along with the offer of admission, applicants receive a link to the Intent to Enroll Form. Admitted students must complete this form by the indicated deadline date mentioned on the Intent to Enroll form to confirm their seat in the particular class to which they have been admitted. When accepting the offer of admission, applicants must also submit a non-refundable tuition deposit. Admitted students who fail to submit a complete Intent to Enroll form on time risk losing their seat.

7. Return of Application Materials

Once submitted, the Application for Admission to Undergraduate Study and all supplemental documents become the property of the American University of Armenia and will not be returned to the applicant.

8. Submitting Applicant -Specific Inquiries

All questions relating to the status of an applicant must be submitted directly by the applicant to the Office of Admissions.
